Tottenham, Milan to get Ceballos decision by July 22

Dani Ceballos’ Real Madrid future should be settled before July 22 with Tottenham Hotspur leading Milan for the midfielder’s signature.

AS reports Ceballos is among the Madrid players given extra time off over the summer, to account for his participation in the European Under-21 Championships.

Ceballos is due back to training on July 22 but wants his next step resolved by then, and Spurs and Milan are at the head of the pack should he leave Santiago Bernbaeu.

Tottenham are understood to be ahead of their Serie A rivals but Ceballos only wants to depart Madrid on a year-long loan, a stipulation Los Blancos have agreed to having initially been open to a permanent transfer if the fee surpassed €50m.

Spurs are Ceballos’ preferred option because they will compete in next season’s Champions League, while Milan aren’t in European competition of any kind, but AS notes the belief that he will essentially be a guaranteed starter if he moves to San Siro.

That’s not the case at Tottenham, but Mauricio Pochettino has made Ceballos one of his primary targets for the summer and the Coach’s support would likely allow Ceballos to play the 40 games he wants to earn a place in Spain’s Euro 2020 squad next summer.
