Junior Firpo: I will discuss my future after holidays

Real Betis wing back Junior Firpo has opened the door to a summer transfer: “When the holidays are over I will sit down and talk about my future.”

The Dominican-born defender only made his first-team debut at Los Verdiblancos in early 2018 but has now established himself as a regular starter, making 43 appearances.

The 22-year-old endured a disrupted second half of the campaign due to a number of muscular injuries including thigh and hamstring pulls.

Junior has a €60m release clause in Seville and has a long-term deal at the club until the summer of 2023, having penned a fresh contract last year.

“I want to enjoy this success and the holidays, right now all the clubs are starting their preseason and we are finishing it – when the summer is over I will sit down and talk about my future,” Junior told Diario AS.

“European Championship success? Well the truth is I am very happy, I was not expecting to be here and being an important part of the team when I was injured, I am very happy to be part of this.

“Our chances of winning? If you had asked me before the match against Italy, I'll tell you if we believed them. After the match, it was all uphill, but we reached the final with great confidence and in the best moment of the tournament.”

Betis full-back Emerson – who provides cover for Junior – is currently on loan from Barcelona until 2021 at least, with both clubs helping the Brazilian move to Spanish football in January.

Barca and Liverpool have been among the clubs linked to the Spain Under-21 international.
