Chelsea force Atletico Madrid into permanent Alvaro Morata deal

Chelsea are set to cancel Alvaro Morata’s loan deal at Atletico Madrid and force a €55m permanent transfer, report Diario AS.

The striker is on an 18-month loan deal at Los Rojiblancos that will expire at the end of the forthcoming season, when it had been expected Atleti will sign him outright.

Chelsea have an option of ending the loan this summer, to which Atleti would be powerless, but the Spanish club would then have to pay €55m outright to sign the player permanently.

The player is keen to remain in the Spanish capital and ‘will not countenance’ a return to Stamford Bridge, but there is a clause in the agreement which could disrupt Diego Simeone’s side.

Such a bid would trigger his purchase and contractually the West London club would be obliged to sell, with Atleti said to now be in a position to finance this by the €80m sale of Lucas Hernandez to Bayern Munich.

It is a summer of mass change at Los Rojiblancos but there is said to be intention from all parties that Morata remains at the club going into the new season.
