Betis reject Roma bids for Pau Lopez, Marc Bartra

Roma wish to sign Real Betis goalkeeper Pau Lopez and defender Marc Bartra (pictured) but must match their release clauses, report Marca.

Both players arrived at the Seville-based club in 2018 with Lopez’s release clause standing at €30m while central defender Bartra’s is double that – €60m.

New Roma sporting director Gianluca Petrachi and boss Paulo Fonseca are both said to be keen to land the two Spanish players, but so far their bids are falling short.

Marca verifies information in the Spanish press that they have bid just €20m for former Espanyol shot-stopper Lopez and €25m for Bartra, previously of Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund.

Bartra enjoyed a resurgence in form at Betis and last year had been recalled to the Spanish national squad, although he struggled for Los Verdiblancos moreso in his first full campaign.

He apparently ticks the boxes of what Roma are looking for in the transfer market with his experience at club and international level, with Kostas Manolas departing the club.

It is said that the Giallorossi are ‘thinking about’ a deal for the former Barcelona player which follows on from reports by the same outlet that the club are considering an approach for Lopez.

However, for both deals it appears that the Seville-based club hold the power in negotiations and are under little obligation to sell unless attractive offers come in.
