Sevilla beat Arsenal to Eibar midfielder Joan Jordan

Sevilla will complete the signing of Eibar midfielder Joan Jordan in a €15m deal on Thursday, beating Arsenal to the player, according to Marca.

Last week, Diario AS said that the Andalusian club had made an opening offer of €10m but they needed to up this to match the player’s €15m release clause at the Basque club.

It is claimed that the midfielder wants to join Los Rojiblancos despite having more attractive economic offers from the Premier League in England.

Jordan’s former club Espanyol are also said to be entitled to 20% of any fee paid for the central midfielder, meaning Eibar were always likely to hold out for his clause.

Eibar signed Jordan from Espanyol in the summer of 2017 and his contract at Ipurua runs through until 2020, with his release clause set at a reported €15m.

The 24-year-old has netted 10 La Liga goals across two seasons at Ipurua and has made 75 first-team appearances but now appears set to leave this summer.

Jordan has emerged as one of the most in-demand midfielders in Spain’s topflight with his release clause viewed to be affordable by other sides.

It is now claimed that the Spaniard will be one of the first signings by Sevilla’s returning sporting director Monchi.
