Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy apologises for deportation ‘like’

New Real Madrid signing Ferland Mendy has apologised for accidentally liking a post calling for the deportation of teammate Lucas Vazquez.

The France international joined Los Blancos in a €55m deal from Lyon earlier this month and is not thought to have a high proficiency in the Spanish language.

A Madrid fan had sent a tweet to the full-back, in Spanish, which called for Vazquez to be taken away from Spain which Mendy ‘liked’, although he has since clarified this was done inadvertently.

“I had not understood what the tweet phrase meant, but I am going to learn Spanish quickly so that this does not happen again. Hala Madrid!,” Mendy wrote on his Twitter account.

Mendy has signed a six-year contract at Los Blancos and is thought to have been bought to add competition to long-term full-back Marcelo in Zinedine Zidane’s side.

It is thought that Theo Hernandez and Sergio Reguilon will both be allowed to leave the club this summer, with Mendy hopeful of enjoying a prolonged run in the team.
