FC Barcelona pull out of De Ligt race over wage demands

FC Barcelona have withdrawn from the battle to sign Ajax captain Matthijs De Ligt, after losing patience with his growing wage demands.

Despite being favourites to sign him during the back end of the 2018-19 season, reports in Marca this weekend are claiming that the La  Liga champions have simply had enough of the long running saga.

Interest in the Dutch international has increased in recent weeks, with Juventus and Pari Saint-Germain also makin g moves to sign the 19-year old, and Sky Italia have reported that a deal with Juventus is already agreed.

According to Marca sources, the Catalan side were happy to fulfil their €75m bid, plus add ons, for De Ligt, however they were not willing to meet his €12m annual salary request, over a five year deal.

That would bring the entire deal to over €200m, with a 20% commission fee to De Ligt's agent Mino Raiola, and they have decided against making a last minute ove to bring him to the Camp Nou.
