Robert Moreno to replace Luis Enrique as Spain boss

The Spanish FA are set to confirm this afternoon that Robert Moreno will replace Luis Enrique as Spain, report Diario AS.

It has been confirmed that a press conference has been called for 4pm which FA head Luis Rubiales will be present, although the reasoning has not yet been confirmed.

Former Barcelona boss Enrique has not been present in the dugout for his side’s recent matches against Malta, the Faroe Islands and Sweden.

The national team boss is unable to fulfil his duties to an ongoing personal family issue, which has not yet been disclosed.

Moreno, Enrique’s long-term assistant who stepped in to take the helm of the last three matches, is now set to replace him in the role.

A report in Radio Marca last March claimed Alaves boss Abelardo Fernandez has emerged as a contingency plan should Enrique not be able to continue in his role going forwards.

Moreno – previous number two at Roma, Celta Vigo and Barcelona – is said to be very well-liked within La Roja’s squad.
