Girona’s Pedro Porro ruled out U21 European Championships

Girona defender Pedro Porro will miss the U21 European Championships through injury.

The 19-year old suffered a groin injury in training and will now leave the squad's training camp in Italy, to return to his club and continue his rehabilitation.

"There can be no worse news than this, he posted on Twitter.

"To miss out on my childhood dream of playing in a European Championship for my country has left me sunk.

"But I will come back stronger, and I will be supporting the team from home."

Spain U21 head coach Luis de la Fuente will now call up a replacement for Porro, before the tournament beings on June 16, with no cover available in the current squad at right back.

De la Fuente has already haad two withdrawals due to injury, with Carles Alena and Marc Cucurella already called up, but he will need an emeregncy replacement for Porro ahead of their opening game against Italy on June 16 – followed by group matches against Belgium and Poland.

Despite the blow of Porro's withdrawal, Fabian Ruiz and Mikel Oyarzabal have both joined up with the squad after senior team duty, with the latter scoring his first senior international goal in the 3-0 win over Sweden on June 10.
