Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak wants Manchester United move

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak wants to join his boyhood club Manchester United this summer, according to ESPN FC.

The Slovenian shot-stopper may be the latest star to depart Los Rojiblancos this summer following planned exits for Diego Godin, Antoine Griezmann, Juanfran Torres and Filipe Luis.

In April, Oblak extended his previous deal at Atleti – which was due to run through until June 2021 – by a further two years.

However, earlier this month the goalkeeper told Ekipa, as cited by Marca: “I renewed here but a new contract does not change anything.”

The goalkeeper’s contract still contains a €120m release clause and United would reportedly sanction a departure for Spain international David de Gea to chase his signature.

The Slovenian international has developed into one of the world’s elite goalkeepers in Madrid since his €16m transfer from Benfica in 2014, while Paris Saint-Germain are also in the running.

Oblak has been a regular in Diego Simeone's starting line-up across the past four seasons and his renewal had long been seen as a priority.
