Marseille want Sevilla defender Joris Gnagnon

Marseille are hopeful of signing central defender Joris Gnagnon from Sevilla this summer, according to reports.

The France Under-21 international became the most expensive defender in the Andalusian club’s history last summer when he joined from Rennes in a €13.5m deal.

Marca now cite a report via Le Quotidien du Foot that the French giants are intent on a deal but Sevilla’s stance may be not to sell due to his age and the investment they made last summer.

However, he started in just four La Liga matches for Los Rojiblancos this campaign, although he did feature on nine occasions across the Copa del Rey and Europa League.

Previous reports have linked Leganes with a loan move for the defender but it now appears that the Gnagnon’s exit from Sevilla this summer could be a permanent one.

Sevilla may need somewhat of a defensive overhaul this summer with Gabriel Mercado set to leave the club at the end of the month when his contract expires while Simon Kjaer is reportedly also available to other clubs, while Diego Carlos has arrived from Nantes.
