Marcelo considering Real Madrid future

Real Madrid defender Marcelo may still leave the club this summer, according to reports in Marca this summer.

The Brazilian defender has consistently stated his desire to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu for the 2019-20 campaign, after returning to the starting XI at the back end of the 2018-19 season, following the return of Zinedine Zidane to the club.

However that situation could change if Zidane is successful in his pursuit of Lyon full back Ferland Mendy in the coming weeks, with a €50m bid incoming for the French international.

Zidane is reported to be happy to allow the veteran defender make his own decision on his future, although his big wages could prevent interested parties from making a move for the 31-year old.

If Marcelo opts to stay and provide back up to Mendy, then Sergio Reguilon is likely to depart, either on loan or on a permanent deal to another La Liga side before the start of the season.

Reguilon found himself as regular under Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari, however Zidane reinstated Marcelo. following his return to the club in March 2019.

Fello defender Theo Hernandez is another full back that could be on the move, if Mendy arrives, who has returned to the Spanish capital following a season-long loan at Real Sociedad.
