FC Barcelona’s Luis Suarez returns from injury in Uruguay win

FC Barcelona striker Luis Suarez scored on his return from knee surgery, as Uruguay beat Panama 3-0 in a friendly in Montevideo.

Suarez had not played since he opted to go under the knife following La Blaugrana's Champions League semi final exit to Liverpool, in a bid to cure a troublesome knee problem.

The 32-year old was criticised by some sections of fans, as Ernesto Valverde's side lost the Copa del Rey final to Valencia CF, with Suarez stating that he wanted to be fit in time for Copa America duty with Oscar Tabarez's side.

He remained in Spain to work on a rehabilitation programme with the club's medical staff, and linked up with the national team at the start of June as they prepare for the tournament in Brazil, starting on June 14.

Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez opened the scoring for Uruguay, before a spectacular free kick from Suarez, and a late goal from Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde secured a comfortable win.

Tabarez's side play their second, and final, pre-tournament warm up game against Indonesia on June 12.
