Sevilla confirm Diego Carlos signing from Nantes

Sevilla have completed the signing of Brazilian defender Diego Carlos from Nantes in a deal worth €15m, it has been confirmed.

The central defender has signed a five-year contract with the Andalusian club and was presented officially on Monday, on the same day of former club captain Jose Antonio Reyes’ funeral.

The Brazilian first arrived in European football in 2014 when he joined Portuguese club Estoril and also represented Porto’s B team before a move to Ligue 1 in 2016.

Nantes completed his signing for €2m in the summer of 2016 and made a total of 108 first-team appearances for the club before his summer move.

Carlos is the first signing of the club since sporting director Monchi returned from Roma in April and will reinforce the defence which is braced for the loss of Argentine international Gabriel Mercado on a free transfer.

Sevilla are yet to appoint a permanent Coach to replace the outgoing Joaquin Caparros, but are thought to be on the verge of instilling former Spain and Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui.
