Gerard Pique: Copa del Rey defeat gives bittersweet end to 2018-19 season

FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique could not hide his disappointment after their Copa del Rey final defeat to Valencia CF.

The Catalan side lost 2-1 to Marcelino's side, ending their chances of a back-to-back domestic double, and a record breaking fifth consecutive Copa del Rey title.

The defeat caps a poor end to the season for Ernesto Valverde's side, as they crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of Liverpool, and Pique was in reflective mood in his post-match interview.

"Congratulations to Valencia.

"It has been a good season, as it always is when you win the league.

"But we end the campaign with a bittersweet taste as things could have gone much better."

FC Barcelona struggled to react to the intensity of Valencia in the first half, with Pique making a dramatic goal line clearance after just five minutes, and he made no excuses for their poor showing in the final.

"At Barcelona we do not make excuses.

"We know that we are obliged to win each competition we enter and that has not happened.

"There have been times where we have not been good enough and we must accept this."
