Lionel Messi: Liverpool FC defeat was terrible

Barcelona skipper Lionel Messi has revealed that their Champions League defeat to Liverpool still affects him.

The Catalan side surrendered a three goal advantage from the semi final first leg, losing 4-0 at Anfield, allowing Jurgen Klopp's side to reach a second Champions League final in a row.

FC Barcelona lost a commanding lead in Europe for the second successive season, and Messi revealed the squad a still recovering.

"The Liverpool game was a really hard blow for us.

"Not just for me, but for the whole squad, and it has been hard to recover from it.

"We were terrible on the night at Anfield and to lose in the same way twice in two years is not acceptable."

The Argentinian international stated at the beginning of the 2017-18 season that he was determined to bring European glory back to the Camp Nou, however it was not to be.

"I didn't promise to bring the trophy back, but I did promise to do everything I could to bring it back.

"However we were unable to do that, and we should say sorry for the performance in the second leg, because we did not even compete."
