Saul Niguez set for Atletico Madrid stay

Atletico Madrid have been handed a boost by the news that Saul Niguez will remain at the club beyond this season, report Marca.

Various reports had linked the midfielder with a summer move to either Manchester City or Manchester United, but Los Rojiblancos will not budge on his €150m release clause.

Such a hefty price tag has ensured that no club has made an approach for the Spain international and he looks set to be a key member of the first-team squad next season.

The 24-year-old signed an eight-year contract before the start of the 2018-19 season, following interest from La Liga rivals Barcelona, with the clause inserted into the new deal.

Saul, who was won 16 caps for the Spanish national team, is one of the pillars of the current Atleti team and he has won five trophies with the club.

A number of high-profile stars have already confirmed they are leaving Atleti this summer including Antoine Griezmann, Diego Godin, Juanfran Torres and Lucas Hernandez, but Saul looks set to stay.
