POST MATCH: Real Madrid end 2018-19 with defeat to Real Betis

Real Madrid's end of season woes continued as they ended the 2018-19 campaign with a 2-0 home defeat to Real Betis.

Zinedine Zidane's side struggled to get any momentum going, with Karim Benzema's first half effort – which hit the post – their only real goal scoring opportunity in the full 90 minutes.

Second half goals from Loren Moron and former Real Madrid player Jese, sealed all three points for the visitors, with Real Madrid unable to muster any sort of response after the break as they end the season on 68 points – their lowest tally since 2002.

The big news before the game was Zidane's decision to leave Gareth Bale on the substitutes bench from the start, in what has been widely reported as his last appearance as a Real Madrid player.

Despite the poor performance of his side, the Frenchman did not opt to bring on Bale, as one of his three substitutes, leading to increased speculation that the former Tottenham man will depart this summer.

Bale did not join his team mates in a post match lap of honour at the Santiago Bernabeu, instead he headed immediately for the dressing rooms at the final whistle.
