Santi Cazorla returns to Spain squad after injury nightmare

Santi Cazorla has returned to the Spain national squad for the first time in four years following a nightmare run of injuries.

The Villarreal playmaker has netted 14 goals across 77 international caps for La Roja but has not appeared since a November 2015 friendly against England.

Other surprise inclusion in Luis Enrique’s squad include Real Sociedad duo Diego Llorente and Mikel Oyarzabal, while Iago Aspas and Dani Carvajal have both returned from injury.

Six players have dropped out of the squad who beat Malta back in March, including Getafe’s in-form striker Jaime Mata and Athletic Club Bilbao forward Iker Munain.

Also missing out are Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos, Sevilla defender Sergi Gomez and Paris Saint-Germain full-back Juan Bernat.

Spain play away in the Faroe Islands on 7 June before hosting Sweden three days later.
