Atletico Madrid ‘forced Antoine Griezmann into farewell message’

Atletico Madrid forced Antoine Griezmann to publicly state his intention to leave as they feared another TV documentary, according to Cadena Ser.

The radio station’s El Larguero show claims the club found out of the forward’s plans to once more film an episode where he would announce his intention to leave Los Rojiblancos.

Last summer, the Frenchman announced that he would remain at the club via his ‘The Decision’ programme which was produced by Barcelona defender Gerard Pique’s media company.

The show attempted to display Griezmann’s personal life and his conflicted future, where he eventually announced he would sign a new contract at Atleti and reject interest from Barcelona.

However, the 28-year-old was criticised for showing self-indulgence with some believing that the nature of announcing the decision was disrespectful.

The last report now says that Atleti’s discovery of plans for a rerun, and this time with a different ending, were sufficient for them to force the player into a direct message to the fans.

Griezmann has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona this summer, with his release clause dropping from €200m to a reported €120m this summer – although Real Sociedad are entitled to 20% of any transfer fee.
