Zidane wants Luca as Real Madrid backup goalkeeper

Real Madrid Coach Zinedine Zidane is at odds with the club over the back-up goalkeeper for Thibaut Courtois next season, say Marca.

It is said that the Frenchman wants his son Luca to provide the back-up for the Belgian international, although the club’s board believes Andriy Lunin is the stronger option.

This follows on from Madrid telling Keylor Navas that he was surplus to requirements at the club and would be made available for transfer this summer.

Luca, a France youth international, started the 3-2 league victory over Huesca with Keylor Navas and Thibaut Courtois both unavailable for selection, but has found first-team opportunities limited in the Spanish capital.

Luca’s brother Enzo currently plays for Madrid-based Rayo Majadahonda in the Spanish second tier and he himself had been linked with a move to French football this summer prior to these developments.

Ukrainian goalkeeper Lunin is currently on a season-long loan deal at Leganes but even though he has failed to dislodge first choice goalkeeper Ivan Cuellar, he has been linked with a permanent move to Butarque.
