Atletico Madrid plan around Antoine Griezmann

Atletico Madrid are planning next season on the premise that star forward Antoine Griezmann will stay at the club, report Diario AS.

The 28-year-old penned a long-term contract at Los Rojiblancos last summer after rejecting interest from Barcelona, who had pursued a deal.

There had been rumours that the Blaugrana would move to reignite their interest this summer but the report stresses how there has been no contact over the forward since.

The Frenchman has an annual salary of €10m, significantly reducing his number of suitors, although his release clause this summer was rumoured to have fallen from €200m to €120m.

“Griezmann is our captain and he is important for us, so I am not worried at all,” Atleti boss Simeone told Fox Sports programme 90 Minutos, as cited by Marca.

“I am not in his body so I cannot tell you what he is thinking, but he has two years left on his contract and he is continuing to grow and improve here.”

The 28-year-old has scored 21 goals across all competitions this season for Simeone’s side.
