Tottenham beat Everton to €30m Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes

Tottenham have beaten Everton to the €30m signing of Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, according to a report in Diario Sport.

Everton – where the midfielder is currently playing – paid a season-long loan fee of €2.5m to land the Portuguese international but do not exercise an option to sign the midfielder permanently.

However, this fresh report now claims that representatives of the agent have met with Spurs as a move appears to be edging closer.

Last month, a report in The Daily Telegraph claims Spurs are prepared to pay more than the Merseysiders to land the Portugal international, with chairman Daniel Levy approving the move.

Gomes is not expected to return to the Camp Nou this summer and the North London club are potentially preparing for the possibility of Christian Eriksen moving on.

The report indicates that Everton are unlikely to be able to match the financial demands of their rivals, but with Barca keen on a sale the deal may still be feasible for the Merseyside club.

Gomes joined Barca from Valencia in 2016 in a deal worth up to €55m but failed to settle at the Catalan giants.
