Dortmund rule out Achraf Hakimi return to Real Madrid

Borussia Dortmund chief Michael Zorc has ruled out a return to Real Madrid for loanee Achraf Hakimi this summer.

Last week, the player told media that “it would be a dream for me to return to Real Madrid,” midway through a two-year loan stint in Germany.

The full-back has represented the Bundesliga title challengers 28 times this season and in September won the Bundesliga Rookie award for his performances.

The Moroccan international penned a two-year loan deal at the German club last summer but at the start of April sustained a broken metatarsal.

“Hakimi will not return to Real Madid this summer, I can rule that out,” Zorc told reporters.

“We spoke with his agent last week and yes I read what the players told the media, but he will stay at Dortmund and we all know this.

“He is coming back to Dortmund this week to support the team and feel part of the club, and will return to us following the Africa Cup of Nations this summer.”

Hakimi, 20, is primarily a right-sided defender who can also play in the heart of the defence and he has already amassed 14 caps for Morocco, including all three group matches at last summer’s World Cup.

Born in Madrid to parents of Moroccan descent, Achraf joined Madrid's youth setup in 2006 from CD Colonia Ofigevi as an eight-year-old, he is in the midst of a two-season loan deal in Germany.

Madrid currently have Dani Carvajal, Alvaro Odriozola and Nacho Fernandez to play in the right-back position.
