Napoli move for Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa

Napoli are considering a deal to sign Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa this summer, according to reports.

Marca cite a report in La Gazzetta dello Sport that the Brazil-born striker, who is currently in the midst of an eight-match suspension, is a target for the Partenopei.

Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly told the Naples-based club he wants to bring in the frontman while president Aurelio De Laurentiis is considering a loan move with an option to buy.

“Any player who wants to leave, can leave,” Diego Simeone cryptically said last month when asked if Costa would be at the club next season.

The Spain international refused to train with his Atletico Madrid teammates one day last month after the club opened misconduct proceedings into his red card at Barcelona.

Reuters reported that ‘personal reasons’ were the reason behind Costa’s refusal to train with Los Rojiblancos, rather than any injury or fitness issue, sparking rumours of an exit.

Costa has also been linked with a summer move to a club from the Chinese Super League.
