Marcelo to stay at Real Madrid

Real Madrid defender Marcelo looks set to stay at the club beyond this season at the behest of boss Zinedine Zidane, report Marca.

Marcelo’s patchy form has seen him play second fiddle to Sergio Reguilon for long stretches this season and he had been linked with a move away.

The Brazilian was largely an unused substitute for long patches under Zidane’s predecessor Santiago Solari and had been strongly linked with a move to Juventus.

However, the Frenchman’s return to Madrid in March has prompted a reprieval for the experienced full-back, whose form has appeared to improve in recent weeks following a prolonged slump.

A report in Diario AS last month stated Marcelo had been given reassurances about his future role in the side and he will now see out his contract with Los Blancos until 2022.

Madrid are also said to be in the market for a new left-back to provide long-term competition for the Brazilian with Lyon’s Ferland Mendy said to be the preferred choice of both the club and the Coach.
