Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele out for the season

Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele is set to miss the rest of the campaign with a hamstring injury, boss Ernesto Valverde has confirmed.

The France international lasted just six minutes against Celta Vigo at the weekend before hobbling off and subsequently being replaced by La Masia graduate Alex Collado.

Valverde told his pre-match press conference ahead of the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Liverpool that it was ‘unlikely’ the forward would feature again this season.

The 21-year old has endured a campaign blighted by injury and will miss the final two league matches alongside the remaining Champions League fixtures and Copa del Rey final.

The former Borussia Dortmund forward has netted 14 goals this season but has been frustrated by injuries throughout, restricting him to just 20 starts in La Liga.

Philippe Coutinho may now be the player most likely to benefit from Dembele’s absence.
