POST MATCH: Celta Vigo boost their survival hopes with Barcelona win

Celta Vigo boosted their hopes of remaining in La Liga for next season, with a battling 2-0 win at home to newly crowned champions Barcelona.

Fran Escriba's side now have a five cushion from the drop zone, thanks to second half goals from Maxi Gomez and skipper Iago Aspas against the much changed visitors at the Estadio Baladios.

With the title in the bag, Ernesto Valverde's attention is firmly on the Champions League, and he rested his entire starting XI from the semi final first leg win over Liverpool – ahead of next week's first leg.

Both side struggled to create chances in the first half, with Gomez's close range effort on 40 minutes the closest either side came to a breakthrough.

The hosts picked up where they left off after the break, with Nestor Araujo's seeing a goal ruled out through VAR for offside, before Gomez converted a fine cross from Ryad Boudebouz, on 75 minutes, to Escriba's side in front.

Aspas made the points safe two minutes from time, slotting home from the penalty spot after VAR ruled that Moussa Wague had handled inside the area, for his his seventh goal in his last seven games.
