Arsenal remain keen on Getafe’s Djene Dakonam

Arsenal are still keen on signing Getafe defender Djene Dakonam this summer according to a report in Marca this morning.

The Premier League side have been consistently linked with the Togolese international after an outstanding season with Getafe – as they look to chase a first ever Champions League spot.

Unai Emery's side declined against making an official bid during the January transfer window, however the Gunners are thought to be interesting in activating his €35m release clause.

The former Sevilla boss watched on during Getafe's 0-0 draw at Valencia back in March, with Dakonam contributing to another clean sheet for Jose Bordalas' side.

Club president Angel Torres confirmed that they recieved offers from clubs in Spain and abroad for Djene during the summer – but they were rejected – with Torres confirming that the player preferred to remain in Spain.

"He wishes to remain playing in La Liga, and we have promised his agent that if a suitable offer comes in from a Spanish club, we will negotiate, he told Cadena Cope earlier this year.

"He has a release clause of €35m, but we could be open to selling him for slightly less."
