Fernando Torres set for Mexican side Atletico de San Luis

Former Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres could join Mexican club Atletico de San Luis this summer, according to Diario AS.

A legend at Los Rojiblancos across two spells, the 34-year-old joined Japanese club Sagan Tosu last year but may now move to yet another continent.

Atletico hold a 50% ownership in Atletico de San Luis and there are currently five Spaniards in their squad, including Atleti loanee Borja Gonzalez.

“Well there are rumours that he (Torres) may arrive , the truth is that the first thing I want is to win promotion (to the top flight,” midfielder Noah Maya is cited as saying by the reports.

“Afterwards, if the Niño Torres or whoever arrives from Atletico can arrive, he will be welcome here.”

Torres netted 120 goals in 347 games across two separate spells for Atleti with spells – with varying degrees of success – at Liverpool and Chelsea between his stints in the Spanish capital.

The famed striker also enjoyed great success with the Spanish national team, whom he helped to the 2008 and 2012 European Championships titles along with the 2010 World Cup crown.
