Vallejo: My challenge on Guerra was not a penalty

Real Madrid defender Jesus Vallejo denied that his challenge on Rayo Vallecano's Javi Guerra warranted a penalty in their 1-0 defeat in Vallecas.

The 22-year old was adjudged to have pulled down Guerra, with referee Gonzalez Fuertes consulting VAR twice before awarding the spot kick – which Adri Embarba converted to hand Rayo three vital points.

However the Spanish U21 international felt the decision was harsh.

"It is true that we both have a hold of each other, but it is not a foul.

"If that is a penalty then there should be a lot more penalties in this league."

Vallejo added that he and his team mates were angry with their performance, and that they owed an apology to their fans for a substandard performance.

"We came here maybe with the illusion that we would win.

"For that we must apologise to the fans."
