La Liga Sunday blackout to protect lower league football

La Liga and the Spanish FA are hopeful of introducing a blackout of top-flight games on Sunday afternoon games to help lower league football.

Marca report that the new proposals would see no La Liga matches between 16:00 and 18:00 local time on Sundays, in a bid to boost the game lower down the divisions.

La Liga chief Javier Tebas and Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales are both said to be keen on the proposals, potentially to earn favour among lower league clubs in future presidential elections.

The move would be a similar idea to the one currently in the United Kingdom, when football cannot be televised on Saturday between 2.30pm and 5.30pm.
