Diego Godin, Filipe Luis set to leave Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid defenders Diego Godin and Filipe Luis look set to leave the club this summer when their contracts expire, report Marca.

Atleti’s policy is not to offer contracts of over one year in length to any player over the age of 30 and the duo have been free to speak to other clubs since January.

The two players have made a combined total of 712 appearances for the club across a total of 17 years – nine for Godin and eight for Luis, across two spells.

Cadena Ser had previously that Inter had agreed to sign Godin on a free when his contract expires in June, although the claim was quickly previously refuted by Diario AS.

The Spanish radio station claimed the Uruguayan defender will join the Nerazzurri on a two-year deal with the option of a third, worth an annual wage of €5.5m.

Los Rojiblancos are also currently at their salary budget for wage offerings, meaning a new deal is unlikely to be sanctioned until players depart the first-team squad.

Juanfran is another experienced defender at the club who has yet to renew his contract which renews this summer, while Lucas Hernandez has already agreed to join Bayern Munich.
