Ernesto Valverde: Barcelona objective is La Liga title

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde insists winning La Liga is a fantastic achievement for his side and there is no time pressure on doing so.

The Blaugrana will mathematically clinch the title this week should they win at Alaves and Atletico Madrid, who are second, fall to defeat against Valencia.

Valvere’s side are nine points clear of Atleti at the top of the table with just five games remaining and with a superior head-to-head record.

“They ask me a lot if we want to close the league as soon as possible and that is what anyone wants, this is natural,” Valverde told reporters, as cited by El Mundo Deportivo.

“What we want is to win the league, no matter when it is, and we'll see if we can do it – the sooner we can do that then that shows we have performed strongly, but the title is the objective.

“In the end, people think this looks easy – we win here, we draw there, we won that day – but the truth is this is a division of very strong teams and winning matches is not easy.

“When you lead at the top by a big margin that makes it look more predictable, but that is not the truth and it makes our titles even more impressive.

“Winning the treble? We have players accustomed to significant pressure at specific moments and generally have always responded well in that environment.”
