Jose Giminez suffers injury blow

Atletico Madrid defender Jose Giminez could miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken toe in the weekend win at Eibar.

The club confirmed that the Uruguayan international suffered the injury in the first half at the Estadio Municipal de Ipurua, but opted to play on through the pain.

He will miss the next two games – against Valencia and Real Valladolid – as the medical staff assess whether or not he will require surgery to reset the toe, which was dislocated prior to the break.

Manager Diego Simeone stated after the game that they will not be putting a timeframe on his recovery, with the standard time for this type of injury being between two and three weeks, meaning he could feature in the final week of the season.

Serbian international Stefan Savic is back in training after a lay off of his own, and he is expected to come into the side to face Marcelino's side, alongside Diego Godin.
