Filipe Luis ‘waiting on Barcelona contract offer’

Filipe Luis has not penned a new contract at Atletico Madrid as he is waiting for Barcelona to make an offer, according to reports.

The 33-year-old is out of contract at the Wanda Metropolitano this summer and has been strongly linked with a move to Barca this summer to provide back-up for Jordi Alba.

Diario Sport cite a report in Bild that claims the defender wants to stay in La Liga but is stalling on a new Atleti deal in favour of a move to Catalonia.

Reports earlier this month also claimed Brazilian club Flamengo had made an approach for the full-back.

“There is a contract in place with Atletico and my idea is to renew that agreement,” Luis told Globo Esporte, in quotes cited by the Spanish press.

“But I have not closed doors to any other options, I am open to listening to offers from elsewhere if clubs are interest in me, but I have not heard from Flamengo.”

The left-back started his career at Brazilian side Figueirense before moving to European football with a switch to Ajax in 2004 and has also enjoyed stints at Deportivo La Coruna and Chelsea.

Reports from his native country confirms an approach from the Catalan giants while Borussia Dortmund are also said to hold an interest in a potential move.
