Diego Costa ban unfair – Thomas Partey

Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey believes the eight-game suspension handed to Diego Costa is an ‘unfair’ punishment.

The striker was shown a straight red card during Saturday’s loss at Barcelona by referee Gi Manzano, who stated in his post-match report that Costa insulted his mother, and that was the reason for the dismissal.

There had initially been suggestions that the former Chelsea player would receive a 12-game ban, but this decision is set to rule him out for the remainder of the campaign.

“I just heard it, I think it's too much,” Partey told reporters, as cited by Marca.

“I think it's too much, it isn’t fair and I hope we talk to them and they lower their sanction, because of the circumstances.

“Everything depends on the occasion and everyone has their own ways of doing things, maybe he has not acted well here, but for me there are too many games for him and for the whole team.”
