Manchester United want Juan Mata as club ambassador

Manchester United want Juan Mata to become a club ambassador when his playing days are over but the playmaker may leave this summer, say reports.

The Manchester Evening News say the Spaniard could well take up a non-playing role at Old Trafford in the future, even should he leave the club in the coming months.

The playmaker initially moved to English football in 2011, joining Chelsea from Valencia, before a £37m transfer to Manchester United in January 2014.

The 30-year-old’s deal at Old Trafford expires in the summer and he is available to speak to other clubs, with The Sun reporting that talks have begun with Barcelona over a free transfer.

Mata has netted 44 goals across 258 first-team appearances for the Red Devils and has 10 goals from 41 international caps with Spain.

His compatriot Ander Herrera is also out of contract at United this summer and is reported to have a pre-contract agreement with Paris Saint-Germain.
