Juventus all in for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane is edging close to a move to Juventus this summer, according to reports in both Spain and Italy.

Calciomercato have said the France international is the ‘number one priority’ of Juve sporting director Fabio Paratici this summer, while fresh reports in Spain have also cast doubt upon his future.

On La Sexta’s El Chiringuito TV in Spain, Jose Luis Sanchez reported on Monday that Madrid had been informed of Varane’s decision that he wanted to leave this summer.

The 25-year-old joined Madrid in 2011 from Lens and has made 269 first-team appearances since, netting 12 goals and winning 16 trophies, including four Champions League crowns.

The central defender also helped his nation to last summer’s World Cup title and his future is now under scrutiny with the impending arrival of FC Porto defender Eder Militao at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Diario Sport reported this weekend that the talented Varane is now highly fancied by the Bianconeri, following up on a similar report in L’Equipe.

Varane has long been a central defensive partner of Sergio Ramos in the Spanish capital but the individual form of a number of players has come under scrutiny this season.

However, Madrid are unlikely to sanction a move away for the Frenchman, who has three years left on his contract, particularly as no club is in a position to activate his release clause of €500m.
