Pablo Machin admits ‘surprise’ at Sevilla sacking

Pablo Machin has broken his silence on his exit from Sevilla and admits he was ‘surprised’ to be sacked following their Europa League exit.

The former Girona boss was dismissed following his side’s exit from European competition against Slavia Prague, and has been replaced by Joaquin Caparros in the position.

“I was surprised by the club’s decision, but I could only accept it,” Machin told Kooora, as cited by Marca.

“Everything happened so fast, we lost in the last minute in the Europa League and I thought I would be leading the team against a few days later against Espanyol.

“We played over 50 games, my team was exhausted both physically and mentally, we accumulated many injuries and had to overcome various obstacles, such as a lot of bad luck within games.

“My goal for this season was to leave the club in the Champions League qualification places but failing that, they are on course to finish in the top six.

“The return of Monchi is very exciting for the club and no doubt he will help the club to many more successes.”
