Barcelona to scout striker Luka Jovic for Serbia

Barcelona transfer gurus Eric Abidal and Ramon Planes will scout striker Luka Jovic in tonight’s match between Portugal and Serbia, say El Mundo Deportivo.

Last week, The Guardian reported the Catalan club are prepared to pay €50m for the Eintracht Frankfurt striker while Abidal, Planes and Pep Segura also watched him for his club in the Europa League win over Inter.

Last month, Marca cited a report in Frankfurter Allgemeine that the Blaugrana and the player have ‘laid the foundations for a deal’ although stressed there was no agreement yet with the German club.

Subsequent follow-up reports in both El Mundo Deportivo and ESPN FC then verified the news of the Blaugrana’s interest, as they seek a long-term replacement for Luis Suarez.

The striker found the net during Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw between Serbia and Germany, once more bringing him to wider attention.

The striker has 15 goals in 18 league starts this season, more than anyone else in the division apart from Robert Lewandowski, while he has also netted seven goals in the Europa League this campaign.

The 21-year-old joined Frankfurt from Benfica in 2017, initially on a loan deal having begun his career at Serbian giants Crvena Zvezda and is now said to be being monitored by Barca.

Jovic is also said to be gaining attention from both Liverpool and Bayern Munich and Frankfurt are expected to sign the striker outright from Benfica this summer before potentially selling him straight away to make a profit.
