Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena believes that Lionel Messi is the world's best footballer, and his 2018-19 form backs that up.
Alena, 21, was speaking with Marca whilst on international duty with the Spanish U21 side, and he is a firm fan of his Nou Camp team mate.
"I have only played with him for a year and I have already run out of words to describe him.
"He is the best player in the world, there are no comparisons to him.
"He is the best and he has been the best for the last 12 years."
Messi has taken over as Barcelona captain this season, following Andres Iniesta's departure and Alena has praised his impact ass a leader in Ernesto Valverde's side.
"He acts like a captain and he has helped me a lot.
"He has really improved my confidence of playing in the first team."
