Sergio Canales has no regrets on Real Madrid stint

Real Betis midfielder Sergio Canales insists he has ‘no regrets’ on joining Real Madrid as a teenager, following his first call-up to the Spain national squad.

Now aged 28, Canales has starred for Betis this season after previous stints with both Valencia and Real Sociedad, having made just 15 appearances in Madrid.

“It was a decision I made at the time because I thought it was the right move for me then, and I learnt a lot from it,” Canales, who signed a six-year deal with Madrid in 2010 from Racing Santander, told reporters.

“In my career I have achieved so many positive things, and I think that being at a club like that and with the quality of players and coaches, it helped me grow.

“With the passage of time I have seen that, and I absolutely have no regrets.”
