Antoine Griezmann declares “love for Atletico Madrid”

Antoine Griezmann has declared his love for current club Atletico Madrid in his new Netflix documentary The Making of a Legend.

The French forward celebrated his 28th birthday on Thursday and has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona again, having rejected the Catalan club last summer.

“I love the club, I love my teammates and the Coach,” declares the Atleti player.

El Mundo Deportivo had outlined how Griezmann’s ‘proven quality and fixed price of €120m’ – relating to the forward’s release clause – is why the Blaugrana are interested in a deal.

Marca, by contrast, say the Catalan giants are not so keen on a deal due for the player having attempted to sign him last summer before the player decided upon staying at Atleti.

The former Real Sociedad star eventually signed a new long-term deal at the Wanda Metropolitano but fresh reports indicate he is now having regrets about staying in the Spanish capital.

The Frenchman does have a release clause in his new contract, that drops from €200m to €120m at the end of the current season, and that may tempt the current La Liga leaders to return with a second bid.

Netflix describes the documentary with the brief: “With heart and determination, Antoine Griezmann overcame his small stature to become one of the world’s top soccer players and a World Cup champion.”
