ESPN: Manchester City closing in on Saul Niguez

Manchester City are edging closer to an agreement with Atletico Madrid for the summer transfer of Saul Niguez, according to sources in ESPN.

The Spanish international has been highlighted by City boss Pep Guardiola ass a summer transfer target, although he could face competition from former club Barcelona, who are reportedly keen on the 24 year-old.

La Blaugrana were rumoured to have a bid turned down by Diego Simeone's side in the summer, as the Elche-born midfielder signed seven year contract to remain in the Spanish capital.

However the source, which states that the 'situation has become too complicated' for Saul to remain at the Wanda Metropolitano, claims that City will test their resolve with a summer bid of €80m.

There is almost rumoured to be friction over the contract situation of Antoine Griezmann, who was given an significantly improved salary when he renewed his deal shortly after Niguez last summer.
