Fabian Ruiz remains in hospital with fever

Former Real Betis midfielder Fabian Ruiz remains in hospital after pulling out of the Spain squad with fever, he has confirmed via social media.

The 22-year-old joined Napoli last summer in a €30m deal and his impressive displays this season led to a first senior international call-up for Spain’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against Norway and Malta.

“Although things sometimes happen at the worst time, I always look on the bright side of life,” Fabian wrote on Instagram.

“I hope this is just a setback and that this is the first call-up of many. I wish good luck to my teammates for the two games they’ll play.

“Thanks go to Luis Enrique and the national team for their belief and all of you for the amount of support you’ve shown me. See you next time!”

The post was complemented by a picture of the 22-year-old in a hospital bed, giving a thumbs-up to the camera.

The former Los Verdiblancos midfielder has scored five goals in 28 appearances for the Partenopei this season.

Fabian was replaced in Luis Enrique's squad by Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.
