Jordi Alba: Barcelona achievements undervalued

Barcelona defender Jordi Alba has hit out at sections of the Spanish media for failing to give the club the credit he believes they deserve.

Speaking after Wednesday night’s 5-1 Champions League victory at home to Lyon, the Spain international claimed the Blaugrana’s achievements in recent years had been downplayed.

“Not every part of Spain has valued the achievements of Barcelona,” Alba told Spanish radio, as cited by Marca.

“We are sometimes given more coverage when we are performing badly and when things are not going well you hear all about it, but not the other way round.

“This is just my opinion and I am not fussed by it, but I think it is necessary to reference it because we have achieved a lot and this deserves recognition, not just this season but in other years.”

Barca are on course for their fourth La Liga title in five seasons and are aiming for a first Champions League title since 2015.

Earlier this week, Alba signed a new long-term deal at the Camp Nou until 2024.
