Lyon boss Bruno Genesio believes his side will need a ‘perfect match’ to defeat Barcelona but their victory at Manchester City is ‘an inspiration’.
The Ligue 1 club won 2-1 away to City in the Champions League group stages and now travel to the Camp Nou in the Round of 16 following a first leg scoreless draw.
“We will need a perfect match to qualify, but we can do it,” Genesio told his pre-match press conference, in quotes cited by Marca.
“We know we must focus on our game plan and be ready for the inevitable pressure, because this is one of the best teams in football that we are facing.
“We know we can progress to the quarter finals, we have the ability and belief to do this, so we must retain this confidence in what we can do.
“Look at the game we played at Manchester City where we deservedly won – this will be a different game but the difficulty level is the same, and that will inspire us.
“Lionel Messi is incredible, but we do not plan to man-mark him individually and will look at other ways to limit the potential damage he can inflict upon us.
“Barcelona have so many quality players that we must not focus on just one.”
