Tottenham made loan bid to Real Madrid for Gareth Bale

Tottenham made an audacious attempt to sign Real Madrid star Gareth Bale on a loan deal, according to a report in Diario AS.

Journalist Guillem Balague outlined how Spurs chairman Daniel Levy thought the North London club could pull off the deal which would see them play just a partial sum of the Welshman’s salary.

The report focuses on a year ago, when Madrid – under the instruction of Coach Zinedine Zidane – were attempting to offload the forward and wanted to find potential suitors.

The 29-year-old’s wages are said to stand at a whopping €12m per year and no English club are willing to shell out such a sum to secure his services.

There are indications that Spurs playmaker Christian Eriksen is on Madrid’s radar and a temporary arrangement for Bale could be included in any such deal.

Zidane is now back at Los Blancos and his relationship with the Welshman is not strong, leading to renewed rumours of a summer exit.
