Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez has confessed his side ‘deserved’ their elimination from the Champions League against Juventus.
Diego Simeone’s failed to register a shot on target in their 3-0 defeat against Juventus, in which a treble from Cristiano Ronaldo saw their 3-2 aggregate elimination confirmed.
“We missed many things,” Saul told reporters after the game.
“We weren’t able to threaten the Juventus goalkeeper. What happened to us today can’t happen at 2-0 up.
“Juventus did better than us, so we have to take a step forward and deal with whatever comes our way.
“Ultimately it’s what we deserve. They were better than us. There’s not much else to say, they were better than us in all facets of the game and we didn’t know how to react.
“We weren’t as smart as we should’ve been when we attacked the spaces they left behind. We didn’t cause them any problems.”
